Rookies began pool play in the Kentuckiana State Championship Friday
night, July 11. This tournament is stacked with 17 teams and is filled with the
top teams in the North/Central zone. Game 1 vs Western KY Aces
ended in a Rookie blowout. Rookies ended the game in 4 innings winning
15-4. Good hitting and fantastic base running were keys in this win.
Anglin's hustle from 1st to 3rd to beat throw by a half step, Webb never
slowing down in a force at 3rd on his way home, and Christie scoring from 2nd with a hook slide on inside of plate as catcher dove after him.
Every Rookie touched home plate tonight for the first time in 41 games. Good job boys!
Kentuckiana State Championship pool play game 2 pitted Rookies vs a
strong River City Rage (Henderson County). This game proved to be a
benchmark of how far we have come. Rookies scored 7 in the 2nd and 3 in
the 3rd and held on for a 10-0 run rule in 4 innings. Rage never reached
3rd base thanks to Lashley gunning down a runner at 3rd and Fuller
putting the tag on him. Parents and coaches felt a win was coming
against the Rage however, none of us could have predicted the way our
boys took care of business. Fantastic! Rookies are playing their best
baseball of the season!
Rookies run came to a screeching halt today losing 5-4 to the Riverbats.
Highlights were Anglin and Hunt's triples, Christie's diving catch
behind the plate, and Lashley gunning another runner at 3rd. We were
down 5-0 going into bottom of the 6th when Rookies made one of their
patented comebacks. So, so close. ~ Coach Mike Webb
