Rookies Report by Coach Mike Webb

Rookies took the field for their first 9U "live pitch" tournament in Henderson. Facing a Rage Blue team, Fuller faced 7 batters in 2 innings while striking out 6. Wells k'd 2 on 10 pitches. Williams and Webb finished off throwing 18 and 12 pitches. Rookies are going to have to buy some new cleats because they flat ran the bases. Three times stealing two bases at once. Hunt caught a laser in CF. Logan Simpson and Williams both took one for the team. Free swinging Rookies crushed the ball all night on their way to a 15-3 win.

Rookies faced off with Rage for a World Series rematch. Start time was pushed back nearly two hours for a 9:20 start time. With the overall #1 seed up for grabs, both teams went for it. Fuller was dominant again throwing 3 innings with 6 K's. Simpson and Gilmour pitched the final 2 to close out a 5 inning game due to time limit. Defensively, Anglin played a great first base and Hunt caught two bombs in RF to hold Rage to a tie in the last inning. Wells, Simpson, Christie, Gilmour and Webb led the hitting with Gilmour smoking one half way down the LF line. Leading off the bottom of the 5th with a 6-6 tie, Webb hit a double to RF. 3 pitches later Webb scores winning run on a passed ball.
Rookies win 7-6!

Due to an early morning rain, tournament is canceled. Rookies (2-0) finish in 2nd place to a Western Ky team (2-0) that allowed 8 runs to our 9 during pool play.
